Business Development Executive
About Us
Integrated Human Factors (IHF) is a specialist human factors consultancy working across nuclear, defence, energy and more. We help organisations solve complex safety and performance challenges through a mix of consulting, software, training and managed services. We are a team of around 25 people who are passionate about what we do and we’re looking for someone to help us grow to the next level.
The Role
IHF need a Business Development Executive based in Edinburgh, Scotland who is ready to roll up their sleeves and help us grow our company.
You will own the full sales cycle: prospecting, qualifying leads, building proposals and closing deals. When technical depth is needed for scoping, our consultants will jump on calls with you. But the client relationship is yours, and you will be the one driving deals to signature.
This is proper hunting. You will be working cold outreach, managing 3 to 6-month sales cycles, and closing deals ranging from £20k to £300k.
It is consultative selling into regulated industries, not transactional, high-volume stuff.
What We Are Looking For
We want someone who has done this before and knows what good looks like:
- 3+ years in B2B sales (ideally services or software).
- A track record of closing deals independently (not just booking meetings for someone else to close).
- Comfortable with cold outreach including phone, email, LinkedIn (whatever it takes).
- Patient and strategic meaning you are not fazed by longer sales cycles, and you do not need constant quick wins to stay motivated.
- Self-motivated and you can work autonomously without needing daily direction.
You do not need to know anything about human factors, we will teach you the domain and support you every step of the way.
What We Are Offering
- Base Salary: £35k to £38k.
- Year 1 OTE: Realistically around £50k to £55k.
- Commission Structure: After cost of desk, 5% on closed business up to £600k, 6% from £600k to £1m and 7% above £1m (uncapped).
This is a build role. In the first few months, you will be prospecting hard, building the foundation for months 5 to 8, when your early deals will start closing and working through payment cycles. From months 9 to 12 onwards, commission flow really starts to pick up as your pipeline matures. Year 2 onwards is where things get exciting as your pipeline compounds, the backend accelerates and remember: it is uncapped.
If you need high guaranteed earnings in year 1 or you are uncomfortable with a ramp period, this probably is not the right fit. But if you are willing to invest the effort upfront for significant long-term rewards, we would love to talk.
Why People Enjoy Working Here
- Real Autonomy: This is your pipeline, your deals, your strategy and we trust you to build it your way.
- Variety: You will be selling across multiple product lines and industries. No soul-destroying repetition of the same pitch 50 times over.
- Learn Something Fascinating: Human factors is a genuinely interesting field, and you will become an expert in a niche most people have never heard of.
- Small Team, Big Voice: We are 25 people, not 2,500. Your ideas matter, and you will have direct access to leadership.
- Proper Support: Private health insurance, 28 days holiday, hybrid working (2 days/week in the office) and flexibility.
This Role Is Right For You If
- You are an experienced closer who wants to build something you truly own.
- Long sales cycles do not frustrate you and you understand the value of playing the long game.
- You are happy to graft in year 1 knowing the rewards compound in year 2 and beyond.
- Cold outreach energises you rather than drains you.
- You want to work somewhere where you can see the real impact and value of your contribution.

Talent and Client Partner: Human Factors
Are you a passionate recruiter? Do you know how to map a market, how to talk to people and how to spot talent? Do you want to build something sustainable?
This could be the role you’ve been waiting for.
About Us
Integrated Human Factors (IHF) is a specialist consultancy based in Edinburgh, covering the UK, Middle East and Australia. We solve complex safety and usability problems for major clients in sectors like nuclear, energy, defence and more. We are a small team of around 25 people, sharing a passion for our trade and a common goal of growing our business to be the best it can be. We are driven, professional, supportive and ambitious.
We have built an extensive talent pool within human factors that allows us to react as quickly as possible to new project opportunities and hire into our team. We now want to apply this methodology to new high-growth sectors, and you will be the one driving it.
The Role
We are looking for a Talent and Client Partner: Human Factors based in Edinburgh, Scotland to own this expansion and work alongside our existing Resourcing Manager.
Your mission is two-fold:
- The Build: You will replicate our success model. You will map the market and build a specialist community of human factors talent. You are not just “adding them to a database”; you are building relationships so that when we win work, we are ready to go.
- The Growth: You will identify and engage with clients who need our specific blend of science and safety. You will open doors, manage relationships and help get us onto the supply chains of new clients.
What You Need
- Commercial Maturity: You have 3+ years of experience in 360 recruitment. You are comfortable picking up the phone to a director-level individual, but you prefer a consultative chat to a hard sell.
- The “Detective” Mindset: You enjoy the hunt and finding the right person or the right decision maker through smart research.
- Patience and Strategy: We do not pay commission on “quick kills”. We pay a salary and bonus based on the long-term growth of the division. You need to be wired for the marathon, not the sprint.
- Tech Curiosity: You need to be curious, and technical enough to pick up human factors principles, and understand the importance of them to new and emerging sectors. We can provide full training.
What We Are Offering
- Competitive Salary and Bonus Package: £35,000 to £40,000 and annual performance bonus.
- A Blueprint for Success: You are not starting from scratch. We have developed talent pools and candidate intelligence over the last 2 years.
- Impact: You are not just a number on a leaderboard. You are building a new arm of our business.
If you are ready to move away from the “hard sell” and towards a strategic, internal partner role, please send your covering letter and CV to: careers@ihf.co.uk
